Nova City: Our Indoor Training Partner

Sheffield Parkour & Freerunning has trained outdoors, for free, since 2005, and that will never change. But some people want a coach, a curriculum and soft landings while they learn. For that there’s exactly one place we send them: Nova City. We know them well, some of our own members work and coach there, and between their indoor parks and our outdoor sessions you’ve got the whole discipline covered.

Who Nova City are

Nova City run two indoor action sports centres in South Yorkshire, including the largest indoor parkour park in the UK at their Rotherham site, about twenty minutes from Sheffield, plus a second centre in Barnsley. They describe themselves as a centre of excellence for parkour and freerunning, and the coaching backs it up: a proper progression system that takes complete beginners “through the fundamentals all the way to advanced techniques, whilst absorbing the ethos of parkour”. Their kit list matches ours, too. All you need is a sturdy pair of trainers.

Parkour and freerunning classes

Their parkour programme runs on a levels ladder, so everyone trains with people at their stage:

  • Mini Ninjas: parkour-style movement classes for under-5s (from age 2)
  • Fundamentals, 6–10 years: jumping, vaulting, rolling and swinging from scratch
  • Fundamentals, 11–16 years: the same foundations, pitched for older beginners
  • Development: experienced kids working on flow, strength and more advanced movement
  • Young Athlete and Competition: advanced practitioners pushed to their potential
  • Adults: a dedicated Friday evening class in Rotherham

Beyond parkour they also run tricks & flips, street dance and Nova Ninjas obstacle classes, open sessions where you train at your own pace, and inclusive SEND sessions in Barnsley on Sunday mornings.

How it fits with our free sessions

Plenty of Sheffield practitioners do both, and it works brilliantly: coached indoor classes at Nova City in the week, then free outdoor sessions with us at Endcliffe Parkour Park to put it into practice on real walls and rails. Indoors teaches you the movement; outdoors teaches you the discipline. Start wherever suits. Our guide to parkour classes in Sheffield lays out both routes honestly.
