Free Parkour Classes in Sheffield: What Actually Happens at a Session

Sheffield Parkour members overlooking a city from a rooftop

Searching for parkour classes in Sheffield usually brings up paid indoor sessions first, but Sheffield also has a long-running free outdoor parkour community. Sheffield Parkour and Freerunning has been meeting in the city since 2005, and the point is simple: turn up, train sensibly, and learn from people who already know the local spots.

When and where we train

Our main sessions are at Endcliffe Parkour Park on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6pm. There are also relaxed social training sessions on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, plus a Saturday city session around Northumberland Road Courtyard. Check the sessions page and Discord before travelling, especially in winter or bad weather.

What happens at your first session

You do not need to book and you do not need special kit. Beginners usually start with low, repeatable movement: balancing, jumping, landing, stepping down, simple vaults and climbing basics. Nobody needs rooftop jumps or flips to start parkour. Good training is controlled, progressive and honest about risk.

Who can come?

Everyone is welcome. Children, teenagers and adults train around the same spaces, but younger participants should come with a parent or guardian and stay within sensible limits. Sheffield Parkour is an open community, not a paid club with memberships, so personal responsibility and respectful behaviour matter.

Why outdoor parkour matters

Indoor classes can be useful, but parkour was born outside. Training in Sheffield means learning to read real surfaces, weather, public spaces and your own limits. It also connects you to the city: Endcliffe Park, the university area, city-centre steps, rails, walls and the wider South Yorkshire scene.

Start with the sessions page, read the beginner guide, and join the Discord if you want to say hello before coming down.
