Parkour has a reputation problem because the most shareable clips are usually the least representative. Most training is not rooftop jumping. It is repetition, judgement, strength, balance and learning to say no when something is not ready.
Start low
Beginners should practise movements close to the ground. A good landing from a small step teaches more than a rushed jump from height. The goal is to build reliable habits before adding consequence.
Check the surface
Outdoor parkour means real walls, rails and floors. Before using anything, check whether it is wet, loose, sharp, crowded or unsuitable. If in doubt, choose an easier movement or a different spot.
Train with people, not pressure
A good community helps you progress without rushing you. Sheffield Parkour sessions are open to everyone, but the culture matters: ask questions, watch carefully, and avoid turning someone else’s challenge into your own before you are ready.
Parkour can be risky, but risk is not the enemy. Unmanaged risk is. Sensible training teaches you to understand the difference.
